Wildlife at Owl Barn Retreat Self Catering Accommodation

Owl Barn Retreat is a converted barn in the heart of the Tanat Valley. The self catering property is adjacent to a stone cottage, surrounded by rolling hills and nature at its very best.

When we started to design our Wildlife Garden we had no idea it would become such a labour of love. Everything was built with sustainability in mind, using reclaimed oak, bark from a local woodsman and searching for plants that were particularly beneficial to wildlife.

We decided to leave the natural pond as it was, but construct a higher pond that would enhance the area and offer more water for the wildlife when the natural pond dried up in the summer. The garden ebbs and wanes with whatever nature provides.

Many varieties of birds can be enjoyed, from Blue, Coal, Great and Long Tailed Tits, Chaffinches, Siskins, Jays, Greater Spotted Woodpeckers, Goldfinches, Bramblings, Blackbirds, Robins, Wrens, Redstarts and Curlews to beautiful birds of prey hovering above including Buzzards, Red Kites, Goshawks, Sparrowhawks.

There are lambs in spring time filling the Mid Wales Tanat Valley with glorious sounds and sights. The self catering property of Owl Barn Retreat is peaceful, based in a tranquil setting and surrounded by nature at its very finest. Perfect for mini breaks, hiking holidays, bird watching, night sky gazing, activity weekends, cycling, walking and Welsh holiday breaks.

The sunsets and sunrises are quite spectacular from the huge balconies overlooking the Berwyn Hills and due to the unpolluted night skies many guests enjoy using the telescope to discover the stars.
